AC Milan striker Christian Pulisic was taken off with an apparent hamstring injury in added time of his club’s Champions League clash with PSG on Tuesday night.

Pulisic appeared to tweak his hamstring, grimaced in pain, and went down clutching his leg.

He was substituted off for Alessandro Florenzi in the second minute of stoppage time and walked off the pitch with trainers.

Milan or coaches for the team did not make an immediate comment on Pulisic’s injury or its severity.

This comes at an inopportune time for his home country – the United States – and is just two days before the USMNT is set to reveal their roster for two important fixtures the CONCACAF Nations League quarterfinals.

The Americans will play two legs against Trinidad and Tobago on November 16 and 20 with much more than advancement at stake.

The United States will need to win these matches in order to participate in the 2024 Copa America – which the USA is hosting.

However, the South American football governing body CONMEBOL did not grant the USA automatic entry into the competition as they did in 2016 when the United States hosted the Copa America Centenario.

The Americans will need to win over a two legged fixture – first in Austin, Texas and then again in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

A loss will give the Americans just one more shot at making the tournament they host via a play-in, but that’s not something they’d like to do if they can avoid it.

The USMNT and the Soca Warriors have a contentious history – most recently highlighted by Trinidad’s victory on the last day of World Cup qualifying that eliminated the USA from the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
